Alie’s Rice Cooker Soy Chicken (電飯煲豉油雞)


Whole Chicken

6 Tbsp Dark Soy Sauce

3-4 Tbsp Light Soy Sauce

4 Tbsp Sugar

1 Tbsp Chinese Cooking Wine

A Few Drops Sesame Oil

4 Spring Onions (Cut into 2)

3-4 Slices of Ginger


Pat dry your chicken, using some kitchen roll inside & out.

Trim off excess fat, neck & bottom if you wish.

Place chicken into a large bowl.

Add all the wet ingredients & massage onto inside & outside of the chicken.

Pour sugar onto chicken & rub all over.

Leave to marinate for 10-20 mins.

Place chicken into rice cooker bowl & add spring onions & ginger to inside of bird.

Position chicken well in the rice cooker & pour the remaining sauce in.

Close lid.Press cook & wait 15 mins.Open lid & be careful of steam.

Gently turn over your chicken.Press cook & wait 20 mins.Open lid & be careful of steam.

Check if your chicken is cooked by piercing the thickest part of a thigh.

If clear liquid comes out, that means your chicken is done.

If not press the cook button & cook for another 5-10 mins

When done, switch off & serve

Remember to pour the sauce at the bottom of the rice cooker into a bowl & use as a dip with the dish.

The sauce is the best part!

If you have time, I would recommend you marinade the chicken overnight, turning and basting occasionally.

You can also use chicken thighs, chicken drumsticks or chicken wings.
